Return to Mabini

Last 2012, my trip to Anilao, Mabini, Batangas is one of the best travels of my life and one of the highlights of my 2012 travels. It was just a simple trip with friends and colleagues at work but it turn out to be the best day-off ever of my life! It wasn't just about the place and friend bonding that we had but with the place, our "samahan" grew stronger alongside creating the best travel memories that we will never forget. So to return to Mabini, a year after is something sentimental to me.

Return to Mabini, a year after.
I was invited on a birthday trip of one my co-workers at work. I accepted it since Mabini is now quite a special place for me and it is going to be one of the last out of town trips I will have before the year ends. I also see it as an opportunity to reminisce the best travel I had before in the place. Yes, I'm getting sentimental because of the travel memories. Because honestly I still got a "hangover" of the Anilao trip I had last 2012. I still not forget that trip even I had a latest trip to Mabini. And having a different set of people on this trip it only made miss my 2012 trip.

I leave early morning for the trip. At 2AM, we leave. My birthday celebrant colleague rented a private vehicle that will fetch me and their company to Mabini, Batangas. It was four and half hour trip before we reach our intended destination - Sea's Spring Resort. The resort is situated in Barangay Mainit of Mabini municipality of Batangas. It is a Korean owned resort so doesn’t surprise if most of the guests are Koreans. The resort is notable for using seawater as a water source for its mineral pools with 3 seawater pools, one with 2 slides and a hot spring pool for body therapy and relaxation. It also provides diving activity for those who are diving enthusiast and fond of underwater marine life of Batangas.

Chasing sunrise - one of the best activity I had on my return to Mabini.
It's so wonderful to return again to the place where I had best travel memories...
One of the main activities in Sea’s Spring Resort is swimming at it seawater pools with one being a hot spring pool. The main pool’s attraction is its two long slides perfect for water fun activity. While, the hot spring pool is perfect for body and mind relaxation. Just be cautious when dipping at the hot pool since the temperature varies up to 42 degree Celsius. There is a temperature indication at the top of the pool.  The resort provides diving lessons and activities for those who want to dive the waters of Anilao since it is reach in marine life and underwater biodiversity. There is also a sport center hall where you can play billiard.

The main pools of Sea's Spring Resort made of seawater.
The view from top of the slides.
If you’re not fond of these activities, you can try to stroll around the resort as Sea’s Spring Resort has hilly landscapes, grassy ground, rocky beach and nipa huts to explore. One of the memorable activities I did was sunrise viewing at the beach. It was the first activity I did since we arrived early in the morning. The wide space and shoreline of the beach in the resort was a perfect spot for sunrise viewing. Find a perfect spot among the nipa huts and just watch the sun rises from the sea and move against the clouds in the sky. I find it relaxing. It led me into in-depth thinking and reflection – which is mainly reminiscing my past travel to Mabini, a year before.

Batangas seascape at its best!
No one would feel tired if you would stroll on this place everyday.
The rocky beach in front of the resort. Unfortunately, not recommended for swimming but highly recommended for photo shoots.
Since the rocky beach is not advisable to swim, I opt to have photoshoot instead!
I tried swimming into their pools for the rest of the day. Swimming into the resort’s beaches is not advisable because of its rocky seabed. You may opt for photo shoot and landscape photography which I did. By night time, we celebrated my colleague birthday by having a barbeque party and drinks near the main pool. The resort allows bringing in food and usage of kitchen utensils for a fee. They also have a free breakfast inclusion in their package. The resort has an ideal space in Mabini (facing the beach) and accessible via road. Their rooms are clean and nice. Their facilities are clean too and landscapes are perfect for travel souvenir shots. Actually their surrounding landscapes made them an ideal place to stay. The resort’s landscapes are winner in my travel books. (I will have a separate post regarding my accommodation and resort review of Sea Spring Resort.)

Kwentuhan and kulitan before going to sleep with my travel mates.
Witnessing the wonderful Batangas sunrise again...
Chasing Mabini sunrise!
It was an overnight trip. The following morning I get to witness again Batangas sunrise. I swam into the pool for the last time before packing up my things for a road trip home. By noon, we leave Mabini and headed to Manila. I was a short trip yet it is a wonderful trip full of reliving travel memories.

Throwback memories - In 2012, it was Batangas sunset
and in 2013, it was Batangas sunrise.
Throwback memories - In 2012, the original cast of Anilao trip and
in 2013, just like a movie sequels, only 2 of the casts to return.
Ending thoughts as I go home from Mabini… Fast forward. December 2013. It’s the last month of the year and exactly 2 weeks to go before 2013 ends. I unexpectedly had a chance to return to Mabini again. But this time with a different set of people and in a different place of Mabini.  Even though, this time my trip here is the opposite of last 2012, I'm still happy and felt thankful to return to this place where I had great travel memories. Because returning to Mabini now brings me so many memories!

-------------------------------------------------------------
Return to Mabini is my last travel trip of 2013 that happened last December 18-19, 2013 in Sea's Spring Resort, Mainit, Mabini, Batangas. I initially thought that the resort is located in Barangay Anilao which prompt me to agree right away to go on the trip since I still had a "hangover" of my Anilao trip in 2012. But later I discovered it was in Barangay Mainit yet still in Mabini municipality where Anilao is also located and we passed by as we travel to Mainit. It's still a return to the place where I had a best travel to date - a return to Mabini.

Anilao Postcards: Of Seascapes... Of Sunsets... 3

The seascape view in front of my eyes starts to transform when the sun's reflections touches everything into golden hue. And the shadows of the running bancas, mountains and islands of Tingloy and Sombrero complemented this gorgeous scene of the moment. The clouds were starting to clear the horizon. The sun turns bolder and bigger as it starts to set down. And it was the start of the most beautiful moment of the day - Anilao Sunset.

Me and my travel mates on this Anilao day-off trip were still in the middle of chats and eating session when the sunset starts to show up. We were just tired from a whole noon of island hopping to nearby islands, coves and beaches of Anilao. We were tired but we enjoy the exploring the seascapes of Anilao.

The most beautiful moment of the day in Anilao...
The sunset just motivated me to practice my skills in capturing photos. One of my colleagues also starts to join me and coaches me in focusing the subject and using the lens since of my she brought a SLR camera. Then, we were joined by chats of my other travel mates. It was a good opportunity to share stories, to bond together and to enjoy the beauty of Anilao in front of us.

I can't get enough of this beautiful scenery in front of my eyes! I think I clicked countless times on my camera just to get perfect shots of Anilao Sunset. I can't count anymore how many times I snapped the click button! But I was satisfied whatever photo I've captured since the whole sunset moment was stunning, breathtaking and marvelous.

Sunset unfolding in the beach front.
Anilao Sunset.
Gorgeous!
I continue to took shots of the sunset while having a good conversation with my friends. The sky and sea is bath in golden yellow color. It was a gorgeous sunset and seascape scenery that I felt I become partially deaf for a moment while listening to my colleagues share of stories and chats. I’m always drawn to sunsets for its magnificence and loveliness. They are really best viewed by the sea!

Everything is reflected in golden sunshine.
After sunset... still admirable beauty of nature.
As the sun sets down and I also sat to watch it gone by. I reflect. It was the most beautiful moment of the day in Anilao. Three words - stunning, breathtaking and marvelous. I'm truly astonished to this moment of the day by the beach! It was an unforgettable seascape and admirable beauty of nature. Anilao Sunset made my day-off trip in Mabini, Batangas truly memorable!

A few more reflections after the sunset ends... This is one day-off that I won’t forget! Not only I did have a quick vacation on my day-off to destress and relax but also explore the beauty of Anilao. I also got to spend this “best day-off” with my best buddies and friends at work. Day-offs should be like this - stress-free, spend on a wonderful place, good share of stories, endless fun and great people to share this day-off with – that what makes the best day-off ever!

The end.

Anilao Postcards: Of Seascapes... Of Sunsets... 2

Pass four in the afternoon. The afternoon sun starts to low down yet its heat still radiates a bearable warm likened to a summer afternoon sun rays.  Though some of the clouds starts to cover up in the sky, the sun is clearly setting the scene by the vast seascape of Anilao. The sun says reflects a beautiful wash of light over the sea. The reflection of sun light creates a dramatic seascape that I only witnessed in Anilao.

I was carried away by the view of the beach front. I didn't noticed that my colleagues were keep on calling me to eat a late launch mixed early dinner. Though I still clicking on to take photographs, I gave in to their call to eat as I'm already hungry too like them. My travel mates slash work mates just came from a whole noon of island hopping around the seas of Anilao. We finished early noon so we failed to eat lunch but despite of it we still enjoyed the island hopping in Anilao to the fullest! The beauty of nature that we discover in the coves, beaches and islands of Anilao is something that me and friends will never forget.

Anilao's golden moment!
After satisfying my hunger, I return to clicking photographs again. It was then I realized that the setting of the sun is starting to change the color of the seascape into a golden sepia tone.

The sepia tone - experimenting using my point and shoot Samsung camera.
Dramatic Anilao Seascape.
Oh the sun!
The golden tone with a gorgeous sky and sun with the shadow of the islands and a mountain on the background made me feel astonish and marvel at the beach front scene of the rest house that we are staying. And when a banca passes through over the beautiful sunlight reflected sea, it made the seascape a stunning scene to behold.

Reflection of light.
Anilao Seascape like no other!
Golden moment - Bella! Bella! Bella!
I marvel at these beautiful seascapes of Anilao. They were worthy of postcards photos that we see in bookstores and souvenir shops. Photos that are good reminder how beautifully blessed our country with beauty of nature.

My friends at work on these trip were also enjoying these marvelous Anilao seascapes. And it was a pretty good moment to have chats with them - knowing them more deeply with their stories over a beautiful scenery in front of us. We even practiced how to take good shots of scene photographs. But few hours later, the seascapes in front of us starts to transform. It was time for the most beautiful moment of the day in Anilao to happen.

To be continue...

Anilao Postcards: Of Seascapes... Of Sunsets...

One of Anilao's best kept charm is probably its perfect postcard pictures of its seascapes and sunsets. My Anilao trip experience wouldn't be complete without seeing these sceneries of the sea, sun and sand. These sceneries made me relax from my stressful work life since it was my day-off when I visited Anilao and it let me appreciate the beauty of nature to the fullest! It calmed my mind and also made me realized that there is a time to take things at slow space without the rush and urgency. And what an enjoyable trip it was when it is shared with best trip buddies!

The stunnung Puting Buhok Cove upon our arrival from the outrigger boat.

Here are the "postcards" from Anilao which I took last November 2012:

Good morning Anilao!
Breaking dawn...
Morning Rainbow...
My morning started with me and my friends staring at the dawn view of the ocean. It was a very relaxing view to start your day watching the break of the dawn in front of you eyes as the beautiful seascape of Anilao starts unveil from the shadows into your eyes. It was a good morning in Anilao.

Rocky but stunning...
Later in the morning we were on a banca island hopping trip and found ourselves on a eye-pleasing treat of Anilao seascapes - complete with the surrounding islands, sea and sun! After a passing by some of the islands, we choose to stay in Puting Buhok Cove which greeted us with a gorgeous view of a white sand beach cove!

Puting Buhok Cove is not just laden with a long stretch of white sand beach but also has a picturesque landscape of rocks, lush vegetation and walled moutain-like peaks. It is also secluded and only few people visits it during our trip so we almost had the cove all by ourselves.

Puting Buhok Cove's seascape!
Paradise?
Own the beach for a moment in Puting Buhok Cove...

Even it was scorching hot under the sun, it didn't stop me and my travel mates to frolic in the sands, swim in the beach and bask under the sun in Puting Buhok Cove. We did beach photoshoots. We snorkeled in the nearby coral garden. And took time to relax and enjoy the beautiful surrounding around us. This is one of the best day-off I had!

Though, visiting the cove has a corresponding fee per person, I hope they do maintain the cove away from too much commercialism in the future. I like just the way it is - quiet, calm, clean, serene and surrounded by beautiful seascapes.

In the mood of Summer in November...
Sun. Sea. Sand... Experience Anilao like no other!
Snorkeling at Sombrero Island on our best day-off ever!
On our return, we saw nearby seascapes from Puting Buhok Cove. Pockets of white sand beaches, gorgeous rock formations and endless blue waters that soothes my eyesight was what all I see. We visited Sombrero Island, named after its shape but we only did snorkeling in the island and did not explore much about it as it has a corresponding fee to set foot on the island. But anyway, I enjoy snorkeling at Sombrero Island as the corals and marine animals in its waters were so alive and colorful!

We return to the port of the rest house where we are staying. It was around 2pm. We took a late lunch. But at around pass four in the afternoon, I witness yet another marvelous seascape of Anilao in my eyesight. It was beyond my imagination.

To be continue...

Best day-off ever in Anilao

My friends at work has been longing for a short vacation together where we can have a great time bonding since most of have the same day-off schedules. One of them suggested to us to stay at their family resthouse in Anilao, Mabini, Batangas. It was a good idea since we’re looking an affordable trip vacation that is just near the metro. Actually, I don’t have much background about Anilao except that I know it is a fame diving destination in the country. I haven’t been there yet so I agreed to go on the trip. But never did I expect that this trip will one of my best travel trip of the year or shall I shall one of my best day-off ever from work!

Welcome to Anilao!
So when the date was set, we planned to go on the trip after our time-out from work. Our time-out was 1240 midnight. At 0140 in the morning, we started our road trip to Batangas via South Luzon Expressway. It was a long drive to south but I never get tired and bored during the entire 3 hour trip. The whole van inside was so alive with my co-workers never-ending laughs, stories, jokes and fun. It made the 3 hour drive shorter and bearable. We were so happy and there were no dull moments during the road trip. I realized that having friends while on travel has a different kind of fun compared on family or solo trips. But I’m not saying it is not fun or happier when you are with your family on trips but traveling with friends is one of the best traveling experiences you can have!

Dawn in Anilao...
Sunrise sky beauty of Anilao...
Morning rainbow.
Rocky shore...
At 0430H in the morning, we arrived at Bauan Public Market. Here, we bought our food that we will cook at the resthouse. Our arrival is just the right timing in the opening of the market stalls where most of the meat products have just freshly delivered. I and my co-workers who did the “pamamalengke” took a sip of Kapeng Batangas to energize our morning before we leave the market.

At 5 am, we reached the rest house just in time when the dawn is about to start. I hurriedly went to the front area to see the beach. It was a rocky beach but nevertheless it has a calm and scenic ocean view. I seated in one of the benches facing the sea to calm and relax myself after a 5 hour awake and no sleep. The dawn sky gave me a rewarding sight of a morning rainbow. I was surprised to see a rainbow early in the morning yet it let me sight a relief. Even I didn’t got to witness a good Anilao sunrise that morning, the rainbow among the morning sky was a great compensation. For me, it was a great view to motivate my first day in Anilao.

Mabini tourism office.
I think day-offs should be like this. It doesn’t have to be really grand or spend to a splurge hotel. Just be in an ideal place for vacation trips and don’t forget to bring best friends to make the trip memorable. Anilao is a two baranggay (Anilao Proper and Anilao East) located in the municipality of Mabini in Batangas. It is popular for divers and snorkelers for its waters are in rich marine life, coral garden sea beds and diversity of fishes. Though not popular for swimming for its rocky and coral beaches, visitors can rent boats to visit beach coves, find snorkeling/diving spots and do island hopping.

Anilao Beach.
We settled our things first before we cooked our breakfast to eat. After a few hours rest and no sleep at all we decided to do island hopping around nearby islands in Anilao which are all part of Tingloy municipality. I decided to push through with island hopping since we have nothing to do in following hours. Plus, I want to explore the beaches, islands and what it is to see around in Anilao. Everyone agreed since everyone is on day-off slash vacation mode. Of course, we haggled for a lower rate even we are a big group but I guess oil price hike really determines the rates.  After settling everything with the boatman and guides, we sailed away to the seas of Anilao onto its surrounding islands, coves and beaches.

The islands around Anilao...
A beautiful white beach cove along island hopping.
The marvelous sight that will welcome you in Puting Buhok Cove.
The white sand beach of Puting Buhok Cove.
We were reminded by the boat guides that each island in Tingloy has corresponding fees whenever we dock and stay so we have to choose which will gives an ultimate “summer experience” yet affordable for the whole group. The good thing is that we can choose which island to visit by checking it out and leave if we don’t like it. Actually, we don’t need to dock and visit every island because as the boat sailed through the sea one will already admire the beauty of the surrounding islands. I saw beautiful rock formation islands and gorgeous stretches of coves with white sand beaches. Most of the islands are not crowded by tourists and visitors which are perfect for solitary strolls, private escapade and photoshoots.

Puting Buhok Cove in panorama.
Our boat docked to a cove that welcomed us not only with its long stretch of white sand beach and turquoise waters but also its scenic verdant hill-like rock formation/karst that perfectly blends with the beach and the sea. The cove is called Puting Buhok Cove, named after the caretaker of the cove whose hair is fully white hair, hence the name of the cove which for me it is like a pun to the caretaker. Even though it’s scorching hot under the 12 noon sun, it didn’t stop us to explore the cove. There was a coral garden a few meters away from the boat docking area which some of my colleagues did snorkeling activity. As for me, I stayed with the others in a nipa hut for shade protection against the sun rays for a while first before exploring the island. Puting Buhok cove has a beautiful long stretch of white sand beach to stroll and swim. Though some parts of the beach are rocky, it was still perfect for swimming and snorkeling activity since a few meters from the shore is a coral garden. There are also some files of coral rock formations near the shore and a man-made bridge named Armis Bridge which was perfect spots for summer photoshoots. I did snorkeling and swimming before we leave the cove. And lots of souvenir photoshoots!

Snorkeling at Puting Buhok Cove.
The next island we hopped on is Sombrero Island, named after because of its shape is like a hat. Sombrero is the Filipino term for hat. We actually did not docked at the island since we will be collected with fees. What we did here is that the guide led us to an ideal snorkeling spot of the island where I saw beautiful and much-alive corals compare to Puting Buhok Cove. Present are colorful fishes as well. I won’t forget the giant blue starfish that I saw under the sea which my friends who snorkelled with me also saw it too. I was delighted to everything I saw under the waters of Sombrero Island. I stopped snorkeling when I felt that the current is becoming too strong already. We then circled around the island and thus, it gave us already a tour of it without having a dock on it! Sombrero Island had a small beach area and cautious swimming should be done as some parts ashore have sudden deep parts that one might not notice.

By 3 pm, we returned again to the rest house to give rest to our tired bodies. Remember, we don’t have enough sleep plus a whole noon activity. As we prepare our dinner, I notice the sea front view by the rest house.   The cloudy sky hides the afternoon sun yet the escaping sun rays reflects to the surface of the sea creating a beautiful shimmering and illuminated ocean. This is the perfect time to practice my photography skills! So I took shots of the view while having a good conversation with a few of my friends. A few more minutes later, the sky and sea started to bath in golden yellow color. The time has come for me to witness the beautiful Anilao sunset slowly unfolding into my eyes. It was a gorgeous sunset and seascape scenery that I felt I become partially deaf for a moment to my colleagues’ call for dinner because of its magnificent beauty. I’m always drawn to sunsets and they are really best viewed by the beach or by the sea. As the sun sets down and I sat to watch it gone by, I reflected it as the most beautiful moment of the day in Anilao.

Moments before sunset...
Anilao seascape - perfect for testing your photography skills.
Moments before sunset...
I took the opportunity to sleep this time after dinner. I think I slept for only 3 hours when one of my friends woke me up because it was time to have booze on our first night in Anilao. Of course, I join with my friends at work to enjoy our night booze session filled with lots of shared stories, laughs, fun that later went down to cries, counselling and sharing our life dramas and drinks, of course! I admit that I was drunk that night but I had a lot fun bonding with my friends. At least, I didn’t vomit out of drunkenness! Wee! Until now, whenever I recall that night in Anilao, I laugh and smile at the same time. We had fun and jokes to each other but most especially I had a great time with my friends as here we get to learn and appreciate more about each other. Hmm... Does that mean beergin* sessions has a good effect, at least?  *beergin – beer and gin mixed liquor.

Awe moment.
Sunset drama...
Anilao sunset... breathtaking...
I think we finished the booze session with sharing our life dramas by 3 in the morning. It was only after that I get a decent sleep. The following morning, three of my colleagues tried snorkeling in the front beach of the rest house as a few meters from the shore there is already a coral garden teeming with rich marine life. After eating our breakfast, we get ready to flee out of Anilao, as one of my workmates has a duty to work at 3 pm. And so we leave Anilao by 10 am and arrive at the metro by pass 12 noon.

The casts of this best day-off ever in Anilao!
I felt exhausted after the trip. Now, my day-off is over. I’m bound to resume working the following day and return to my normal work life again. Yet, amidst all these, I realized that this is one day-off that I won’t forget! Not only I did have a quick vacation on my day-off to distress and relax and explore the beauty of Anilao but I got to spend this “best day-off” with my best buddies and friends at work. What I like best in this trip is that after having a memorable bonding together, we get to have a deeper understanding and appreciation of each other’s personality and uniqueness all the while in the sweet escapes of Anilao. Day-offs should be like this - stress-free, spend on a wonderful place, good share of stories, endless fun and great people to share this day-off with – that what makes the best day-off ever!

-------------------------------------------------------------
Best day-off ever in Anilao is my travel story about how did I spend my day-off last November 19 and 20, 2012 in Anilao, Mabini, Batangas where I get to have short trip and quick vacation to Batangas with my friends at work who happens we have the same day-off schedules. We planned to have an ultimate bonding experience by spending a worthy and relaxing day-off in Anilao where one of my colleagues has a family rest house. This is one of the best trips I had with friends which made me dubbed this trip as my best day-off ever!
This is my last travel trip of the year 2012.
